With summer here, it’s officially moving season! Whether you’re preparing to move into a new home, clean out your garage or just help a friend move, we have some helpful tips to make your moving experience easier.

1. Reserve your moving truck in advance.

The summer moving season is the busiest time of the year for truck-rental companies. Reserve your vehicle in advance to ensure a truck is available the day of your move.

2. Start early to avoid potential issues.

Unfortunately, things happen. Vehicle break downs, lost credit cards, forgetful friends and other unexpected issues can happen when least expected. Reduce your stress by picking up your truck early in the morning (or the night before) and starting your move as early as possible.

3. Pack in boxes to limit number of trips.

If your goal is to finish your move in a single day, you’ll need to limit the number of trips you take driving between locations. Packing in boxes is the most efficient ways to pack your truck, ensuring you will transport the most items with every trip.

4. Pack rope and bungee cords.

Not every item can be packed in a box. For those items, you’ll want to ensure you have rope or bungee cords available for tie downs.

5. Load heavy items first.

Finally, when loading your moving truck, be sure to load the heaviest items first and place them towards the front of the truck to ensure they won’t fall and crush any other items.
